Hello, I would like to introduce myself, Ken Tufts and how and why I decided on the name Mastermind Builders. “Mastermind” is a word that can be explained by the compound word “master” having the meaning of superior skill in a profession and “mind” as having intelligence and competence to complete the job successfully. This is a trait that must be carried out not only by a sole leader as this word is usually used, but by others such as the plan designer, structural engineer, the lead carpenter, the concrete finisher journeyman, and or whoever is needed in order to have a quality result.
Mastermind Builders became licensed on January 1994. I, Ken
Tufts have served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers active service
and in the Reserves during the 1980’s. In 1989, I graduated
with a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management from
Cal State Long Beach. I worked on some interesting projects
as a field/project engineer in the LA Metro Rail Tunneling Project
and the San Antonio Flood Control Tunnel. After that I worked
as a scheduling and estimating consultant for a year and a half,
then decided to apply and take the contractors exam in 1993. I
had an office in Gardena, California and worked in the South Bay,
Palos Verdes Peninsula Area, and Long Beach and various other places
in Southern California. We
worked for Caltrans, L.A. County, LAX and many residential projects. Then
in 1996, our family moved to Cypress, Orange County and have been
working throughout Orange County while still working in Los Angeles
County. We worked for Westminster School District, a Kentucky
Fried Chicken franchise, and along Highway 2 near Mount Wilson as
subcontractors just to name a few along with many residential projects
from room additions, patio, pool decks and so many other projects.
